Time...

there are many clichés regarding the passing of time

“Time flies when you’re having fun”
“Time is on your hands”
“Time heals all wounds”
“Just in time”
“Stitch in time saves nine” (huh, what?)

Whatever cliché you like to use there is no denying that time really does fly. It seems the older I get the faster these years, months, days, go by. Every Christmas I can be heard saying at least 5 times (most likely more than 5), “I can’t believe it is Christmastime already, didn’t we just do this?”

There have been many events to mark this year’s passing, but none like watching my kids continue to grow up. We have had the usual milestones, like moving up into the next grade, the next clothing size, the next soccer age group. But I have also had another year to watch my kids continue their journey into becoming beautiful young adults. We are not there yet, but have put another “five hundred twenty five thousand, six hundred minutes” behind us.

I have loved every one of those minutes, (Okay, who are we kidding, there have been many that I would gladly trade in for a do-over... but I digress) and I know that I can never get those minutes back for said “do-over” so I will gladly take what I have been given and reflect on another year of hard work, triumphs, disappointments, heartache, laughter, tears, and most of all love. Because as we all have our own way of measuring time, it really does go without saying that “times, they are a changing” and good or bad, you can’t stop time. So embrace the changes and remember there are no "time outs" in life so enjoy every moment…

How do you measure time?
In daylights, in sunsets

In midnights, in cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife
In five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, a year in the life?

One of those bitterwseet moments of my 2014:
Watching my kids "cut down" a part of their childhood.

and it is gone, just like that, a large part of their past! All I have left are the memories of many years, months, days, hours on the play set. They had the time of their life with the ol' playset, both playing on it and taking it down!

Smile,
Kim

  1. Oh my goodness, my heart feels a pang just LOOKING at your photos of the playset coming down. Surely a passage that marks the end of one era, and the beginning of another. Thanks for linking up to Song-ography. Happy New Years to you and yours.

  2. Wow, the 'falling' of the playset is truly a milemarker that cannot be ignored (progressing school grades become blurred, just like clothes sizes - but that bare spot in the yard hangs on just long enough to make its point). It is funny how it feels like we have all the time in the world as young children, we don't give time another thought as young adults, and we can't seem to get enough of it come middle age. Take it all in, embrace it, and carry on to new and exciting memories. Happy New Year!
